bad left-leaning climate takes
I dislike the “welp the world is ending, the oceans are going to boil in 12 years and we’re all going to die” narrative of climate change because the reality of the situation is both better and also worse than that.
Better, because we are not all going to die in one big firestorm and/or mad max/waterworld apocalypse
Worse, because a lot of people (plus natural biodiversity) WILL die in a series of firestorms, floods, hurricanes, droughts, famines, and wars
bad left-leaning climate takes
People forget that climate is about PEOPLE. Especially people much more vulnerable than those of us looking at “welp the earth is dying” memes on our phones.
“The earth” is not dying. “The earth” will adapt. I picture having to watch news coverage of the 2004 tsunami over and over again: rows and rows of bodies lined up on the beach, and knowing that I could do nothing about it. Plus hurricane Katrina. Plus the Camp Fire. Everywhere. All the time.
Yes, you heard this right - Ireland is yet another country to have formed a legal industrial union for games workers! Comhghairdeas!🎉🎊
Unions springing up like mushrooms these days, who's next?💪💪🏿💪🏽
back is less terrible today, but hips are starting to ache... what is this madness. apparently the back pain has led to me moving less in my sleep tho (long story), so the sleep people say they may soon be allowed to sell me a cpap machine so i can FINALLY get the sweet release of a good night's sleep 😭😍
Historical gay romance, WW2, concentration camp mention
Reed Edwin Peggram and Gerdh Hauptmann, a Black American and Danish man in an apparent #gay relationship, braved wartime deprivations and concentration camps in order to stay together during #WorldWar2--but it seems wartime trauma and postwar life ultimately separated them. https://getpocket.com/explore/item/the-gay-black-american-who-stared-down-nazis-in-the-name-of-love #history
Differences in the chemical composition of urine caused by changes in diet mean that many medieval recipes for paint etc don’t work right unless you get the urine from someone whose diet resembles a medieval one. This is incredible:
1. North Carolina GOP Sen. Alexander walks into the redistricting room and discovers that his district has been made competitive.
2. He quietly slices up the district to cut out Democratic voters.
3. He gets caught.
4. He announces his retirement. https://twitter.com/johnbisognano/status/1171950792196141056
I feel a bit guilty.. I haven't had the spoons to write this fanfic that I keep getting kudos/comments on. And like, I'm not as into the fandom as I used to be? But I also do want to finish it... eventually... but I'm also flying blind lol. I started it without any idea of where it would go, except I wanted three characters to make nice with each other. Every chapter I write is kind of funny but feels totally aimless. :sigh:
