Ngl as a non-American the annual seasonal glut of "how not to have your racist uncle kill you this Thanksgiving!" thinkpieces is totally wild, man.

uspol, turkey day

@alis those always annoy/exhaust me because it assumes that dealing with racist relatives is something that you, a liberal white person, only have to endure once a year

uspol, turkey day

@alpine_thistle I think they're mostly wild to me because I have relatives like that (minus the shooting part, obvs) but I just... don't... spend any holidays with them?

Like... why would you? I don't want to hang out with awful people *ever*, on holidays or not on holidays. o_O

@alis it’s probably aimed at people who go to Grandma’s house for the festivities and whoops, Racist Uncle Brad is also there, here’s how to deal with him for the next hour and a half

@alis

@alpine_thistle
I just see them and feel selfishly glad that I never see my extended family. I "get" the tradition people have of everyone coming together for holidays or family reunions, but I don't completely understand why you'd want to do it.
