I have mixed feelings about Encanto but I always have feelings about children catalyzing an adult’s growth.

It’s putting the burden of teaching on the child, someone with less power and experience, for an adult, who should know way better.

I get that it’s a kid’s movie and the kid protagonist is the hero but kids should never have to facilitate an adult’s growth. That’s on the adult. Adults need to do the work themselves.

Also, “you’re more than your Gift” is a very complicated message and I hope it’s interpreted as “you are worth more than what you contribute”. In that sense, Encanto is a radical movie.
