Call me Hush. I'm an OG fandom and computer nerd. I sometimes write or draw, but mostly just discuss, analyze, and boost. Catch me on Dreamwidth, same bat-name, same bat-channel.

The fediverse remains to me a really positive example of what we might actually be able to build in the world. It gives me hope. You all are wonderful to eachother for the vast majority of the time I read over my timeline. I know it's a bit out of no where and probably feels like you're not doing anything to earn it, but: thank you. Thank you all for just being an object lesson to me that people can be as good as you are. It helps me get through the days in ways that are difficult to express.

strangehorizons.com/non-fictio "Kirk Drift" makes an interesting argument: that despite Star Trek TOS being steeped in the sexism of its time, Kirk's reputation as a womanizer is mostly a retroactive reclamation by 80s-90s nerds seeking to bend him into a prototypical modern action hero and normalize a specific contemporary brand of nerd sexism.

btw the 5 gallons of apricots are from just two of the branches, which got so heavy from all the fruit that they stright up broke off of the tree. it is not a large tree.

so I have an apricot tree. when we moved here three years ago SO cut off all the limbs until it was just trunk. was pretty sure we'd killed it.

now I have a 5 gallon bucket full of apricots.

I’m still waiting to hear a progress report on the efforts to clone a mastodon as part of a promotional campaign for Mastodon.

I just want to bring to attention the fact that this appears to be a picture of James Sunderland and Pyramid Head flocking under a rainbow in a field of flowers, and someone decided to tag it as yaoi.

Just. Meditate on that.

Just realized that one of the things about Discord that I adore, that makes it a comfortable place to be in a way that most other social media isn't, is that there are no follower / friend / whatever metrics.

It doesn't matter how many followers someone has in a chat room. If you're both there at the same time, and you say something interesting, they'll talk to you.

Reminds me of ye olde “click on the third x in the sixth paragraph to find The Slash” gating.
