weight loss

It was a conscious decision not to lose the weight I gained thanks to medication & depression bc my health overall was good. But this summer I was diagnosed w/ acne inversa & the dermatologist said weight is pretty much the one thing I can influence. So far I've lost 10kg by reducing snacks between meals & exercise - but I stayed silent online bc I know what many people say about dieting. But so far it seems to work; I've had hardly any cysts. I just don't want to feel bad about this.

@shirasade Congratulations. πŸ˜€ I find that kind of weight loss admirable because I know how hard it is. You shouldn't be made to feel bad about the decisions you make for yourself; your personal choices are not a statement about other people's choices. I'm glad the weight loss seems to be helping with the acne!

@lindentreeisle Thank you! I just keep seeing posts how dieting is Bad & it's been making me sad. Esp. since I've found a way that works for me - I still eat everything I want, I've literally just stopped snacking so much because I used to do A LOT of that (like, 100g bars of chocolate at a time). And it does seem to help - I haven't had anything bigger than a pea-sized cyst in my armpits, where in the past 2yrs I had what felt like golf balls that had to be cut open. Sorry, TMI! :)

@shirasade LOL no worries. Cysts are the worst, regular pimples are bad enough!

People are talking a lot these days about the harms of the culture of dieting- and they're right, there's a lot of problems with the way that these industries teach us to hate our bodies to increase their profits, oftentimes in harmful ways.

But this conversation shouldn't work to the disadvantage of people who want to lose weight and are doing it in an undeniably healthy and safe way.

@shirasade Incidentally that's my problem too- not frequent snacking, but eating candy is part of my evening routine and even when I'm not hungry for an actual meal all evening, I'm never not-hungry for candy! My doctor kept trying to talk me into bariatric surgery and I'm like, "you don't get it, my problem is not that I'm hungry too much, my problem is that chocolate is fucking delicious."

weight loss

@lindentreeisle I hear you! It used to be like that for me, too. I'm actually surprised how quickly my habits changed - now I really don't miss it, at least on normal days. When I do, I always have some dark chocolate, which I love but never eat as much of as milk chocolate and the like. (Advantage of living in Switzerland: easy access to affordable yet high quality chocolate of any kind.) And if I crave other stuff, like crisps, well, then I buy some crisps. *shrugs*
