I'd like to learn to darn a sock - just saw a video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DOmm8HL5fwY about how to make a patch using a Speedweve Style Mending Loom and that seems fun. I'd like to try it out before I buy a bunch of stuff. Anyone in #Queens #NYC have one and interested in letting me try theirs out? Or maybe I could check whether one of the NYC makerspaces has one I could try.
@brainwane If you want a speedweve style patch, the speedweve is definitely the easiest way to make it.
You can also freehand it, but it will look a lot less tidy.

If you're doing socks, traditionally you put something inside the sock, to give it shape while darning it (and prevent you from accidentally darning the sock to itself).
