Today is another eventful Sunday. A tow truck driver found my husband's stolen car, and called me just before 8 this morning.
The car was found by the side of the highway and is totalled. Missing wheel, broken axles, air bags deployed. He took pictures for us and gave us the location.
So the car was stolen by tow truck, license plates swapped, any identifying stickers gone, GPS wires cut, and was driven around for a week until it was crashed. I guess they intended to keep until they wrecked it, but left the VIN as is, which is how we got the call.
Seems like a total loss.
My husband and our friend went out to deal with the car. Finally managed to contact someone with our insurance (as our current claims agent doesn't work Sundays).
A report that the car was found has to be filed at the police station, as no one could be bothered to come out to the location.
The story gets wilder after the car had been recovered. Best way to describe it is that it was stolen by a professional joyrider. Witnesses say last night he side swiped a truck, the truck chased him, and he lost control while speeding. The car spun out, and pieces broke off when it hit the dirt.
@silver_huskey@fandom.ink This is insane. Hopefully the thief at least walked away with some serious bruises...
@minneyar Very much so! I'm pretty sure he did. The car all but rolled over.
